Experience:
As a founding partner of Link & Rockenbach, Scott Link practices in the areas of Complex Business Litigation, Complex Property Insurance, Legal Ethics, Professional Malpractice, Class Actions, and Securities Arbitration. Scott is a lawyer’s lawyer. He has represented national, statewide and local law firms and individual lawyers in legal malpractice disputes for more than 25 years.
Previously, Scott was a shareholder for more than twenty years with Ackerman, Link & Sartory, P.A. and an equity partner with Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart, P.A. During his ten-year association with Gunster, he was appointed co-chair of the firm’s securities litigation practice group.
Using his more than 36 years of experience, Scott also co-leads, with founding partner Kara Rockenbach Link, the firm’s property insurance practice, which focuses on helping clients to successfully navigate the increasingly complex property insurance claims landscape. Scott served a three-year term as Coordinating Counsel for Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, earning recognition as one of the state’s most knowledgeable and experienced trial attorneys on property insurance claims. During his first 20 months on the job, he provided strategic analysis in more than 500 property insurance claims and helped to win favorable trial results in the majority of the jury trials that fell under his supervision.
Scott has been Board Certified in Business Litigation since 1999 and has received the “AV” judicial rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory®. He was appointed to and served a three-year term on FINRA’s National Arbitration and Mediation Committee. Scott speaks and authors articles on securities litigation and participates in training sessions for FINRA and the State of Florida/Division of Banking and Securities. Scott is also currently serving a second term as a public member of the Securities Industry Conference on Arbitration (SICA). In 2018, Scott was appointed as a FINRA-approved mediator.
Scott frequently lectures on professional liability, malpractice, trial skills and trial strategies. He has also taught hundreds of lawyers over the years in topics such as corporate representatives’ depositions (testifying skills and defending), preserving objections at trial, jury selection, trial skills (from the inception of the case through trial), understanding Frye and Daubert, assignments of benefits, taking recorded statements, sinkhole litigation and trial strategies, litigation strategies for front-end and back-end insurance teams, expert witness training, sinkhole subsidence investigations, and triage team strategies. He has participated in over a hundred trials and has also overseen and participated in hundreds of mock exercises for trial courts, intermediate appellate courts, and the Florida Supreme Court.
Scott has been listed in the Best Lawyers of America since 2003 and was named “Lawyer of the Year” in 2014, 2016, and 2019. He has been selected for Florida Super Lawyers every year since 2006 and has been named “Florida Legal Elite” for business litigation by Florida Trend magazine since its inception. The Elite list represents only the top 2% of currently practicing Florida Bar members. Additionally, he has been ranked by the prominent legal guide Chambers and Partners USA: A Guide to America’s Leading Business Lawyers. Scott has also been named one of the Top Lawyers in South Florida as designated by the South Florida Legal Guide every year beginning in 2003 for business litigation. Scott was awarded the 2017 Legal Sector malpractice lawyer of the year for Florida, and in 2018 he was named complex business litigator of the year. He also was selected for the Lifetime Achievement honor among America’s Top 100 Attorneys for Southern Florida and as one of America’s Top 100 High Stakes Litigators.
